Putting a smile on our faces today are these practical and stylish field notebooks by Paul Farrell which arrived in store yesterday. At £7 each, we say 'Yes Please'!

We are still in mourning for the death of polaroid as we knew it (fingers crossed we see it in its new form soon). In the mean time, hopefully this sweet ceramic reference from Yellow Owl will cheer you right up.

The super talented Illustrator Gemma Correll has just returned from a visit to the US, where she created this beautiful window display (see below) for San Francisco based publishers Little Otsu. It's such a delight and being big fans of both we just had to shout about it.......

After the success of her recent Stacation Exhibition, the very lovely and talented Hanna Melin has transformed some of her collectible characters into the most unique accessories. Ice Cream Lady and Banana Man are all dressed up and raring to go on a fancy dress parade across your apparel! Hanna has packaged the both the brooches and Ice Cream necklaces up with all the TLC you'd expect from a Craft loving Artist and at only £4 per badge and £14 per necklace, the price is pretty tasty too.

Tweet tweet tweet.... twitter your days away in the traditional way! We have had these beautiful looking bird calls in the Gallery for a wee while now and they are causing a bit of a ruckus among birdie fans and music makers alike! My favorite part of this sweet-tweet maker is how cute it looks on a chain around your neck... and how realistic it sounds. You've still got until the 21st of this month to visit Rob Ryan's exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Famed for his detailed hand-cutting of delicate papers into intricate patterns, often revealing whimsical stories or poetic phrases, Ryan has decorated the shop window at YSP. His designs have been used in many collaborations with clients such as Sir Paul Smith, Vogue, Liberty of London, Roger La Borde and Fortnum and Mason. Framed one-off paper cuts and limited edition screen prints, exclusive to YSP, are on display throughout the Centre.

Decorated vinyl panels by Ryan also adorn the windows in the Visitor Centre, and a publication (pictured below) designed by the artist featuring all the work on display accompanies the exhibition.

Our cards continue to make their way out of the gallery on Valentines missions! It was LOVEly to spy Kate Holliday, designer of one of our best-selling card lines, sunlight on closed lids, featured in today's Scotsman magazine ahead of the big day. Kate recently worked with the wonderful team at Edinburgh-based boutique Bohemia to paint their shop window live with a Valentines mural............

The gallery is feeling a bright shade of red today with Valentines just around the corner. Wonderful cards from Darling Clementine, sunlight on closed lids, Gemma Correll, Alison Hardcastle, Lisa Jones and Karoline Rerrie are all flying out, off to be penned (and perhaps sealed with a kiss).

We are particularly swooning over present and correct's giant button card (pictured below) for friends, family and other miscellaneous loved ones. Great for Valentines, perfect for all year through. It is made from recycled board and debossed with a design based on a vintage find. On the reverse, in white foil, it says 'You're as cute as a button." Each card (4.25") comes with a plain white envelope. Not recommended for giant coats or trousers.

We have so many talented artists showing their work at The Red Door Gallery and we love hearing about their other projects. Kirsty Anderson AKA Wooden Tree popped in to tell us about Double Darning which is currently installed in The Foyer, Aberdeen. Exhibiting along side Lyndsey Grey this talented twosome have captured our transient world in fabric. Their embroidered, found materials are friendly, nostalgic and cumforting - qualities their lovingly made works embrace and challenge. Kirsty the cloud catcher has embroidered some ellusive fluffy clounds to study along side a menagere of her and Lyndsey's characters and domestic treats. The exhibiton runs to March 20, so you have pleanty of time to pop in and be charmingly challenged and support the young people of Aberdeen The Foyer work with.

Well, well, well.... Zena has done it again! Here is the perfect Bling Ring for February, if your feeling romantic, it's one heart, thunder struck by love in two halves... beating (Mr Phill Colins suggests) just as one......... awwwww. On the flip side, if your feeling a teensy weensy bit cynical, it is a broken heart, and given the size and weight of this bad boy, it could add a little sting to a heart breakers cheek... Hmmm best not encourage violence - this is the month of Valentine's Day after all, and happily be-coupled or flying solo, I think we should all just stick to spreading the love... I'll be wearing mine in gold on my pointing didget to wave at cute couples on Sunday... at only £14, I might even give a special someone a matching one in silver so we can play cupid in the park....

Yes indeed, it's that time of year again when bird lovers (yes, that's us) unite for The Big Garden Birdwatch. For the past 30 years RSPB have been asking supporters to spend just one hour recording each bird species seen in their garden, or local park (not flying over) at any one time, on either Saturday 30 or Sunday 31 January 2010.
All you need is a pen or pencil and paper and a nice cup/flask of tea! It's a wonderful way to be involved in something that really counts. As the RSPB say, "The Big Garden Birdwatch has never been more important than it is today, helping us create a 'snapshot' picture of bird numbers in each region, showing us that some of our birds are disappearing in scary numbers". You can find lots of information on their website and community blog. So wrap up warm, sharpen those pencils and get counting those very precious feathered friends of ours....
