The very thoughtful and talented Laurie Hastings came to visit Edinburgh and popped in with some more illustrative cards for us. We think you will agree that they are just the perfect aid to an ocean led daydream... A jolly life on the open waves with a yo-ho-ho and a bottle of Rum... or a frozen river to skate away on with fantastic flying fish zipping by.  Laurie's ability to mix textures, patterns and character creates poetic imagery fit to transport even the most seasoned travellers on a journey through their mind's eye.  If you're not travelling this half term, brighten up your stay-cation with an imaginary ocean vacation for just £2.50.

In the current age of tweeting, tumbling and texting, there is nothing nicer than receiving some good old fashioned post. I love snail mail! I would also like to mention what a  helpful, friendly Postman we have here on Victoria Street. Hats off to The Red Door Postie!
A few weeks ago I contacted a little creative collective based in Italy, named Studio Fludd. I have read about their work and I am very interested in stocking their products at The Red Door. In response to my email Sara, Clara, Valeria, Caterina and Matteo sent me the parcel pictured above. It contained little samples of their work wrapped beautifully in homemade tie-dye tissue paper with confetti in each bundle. Also enclosed was the loveliest hand written letter I have ever seen. The attention to detail was truly delightful, I simply had to share it with you...

I am proud to present a new and magnificent sculpture by Red Door favourite Seymour. This equistite piece is currently being exhibited as part of a show entitled 'The Mad Hatter's Tea Party' at the Strychnin Gallery in Berlin. As Seymour explains on his website -
'The gallery space is set up like the set from a warped Alice in wonderland movie with a huge crooked table displaying ceramics and sculptures of all kinds.! Not your typical art show.'
The sculpture is made from clays and various castings, imaginatively combined with found objects. I am particularly fond of the pink flamingo.
I strongly recommend that if you are in the German capital before the 31st February, you factor a trip to the Strychnin into your visit. The Seymour sculpture are even more impressive when viewed in person. Hmmm... is it too late to organise a Red Door field trip..?

On Monday my lovely friends Helen and Greg opened 'Armstrong's Deli' on Fountainbridge in Edinburgh. It's delightful! Fresh coffee, gourmet sandwiches, homemade soup and Helen's delicious home baking.
I had a brie, pear & walnut sandwich and a slice of chocolate cake. I took away with me a little bag of Helen's delicate shortbread hearts. What a treat!

Twit - twoo! Yesterday saw the very exciting arrival of 'Owls Go Hoot' at The Red Door. I have been an admirer of these beautiful cards and postcards for sometime now and it is so nice to see them sitting on our shelves.
I asked the little lady behind these designs to tell us a wee bit about herself. Here's what she had to say -
"My name is Natalie, I'm a graphic artist and run a small paper and hand-crafted goods business called Owls Go Hoot. I create all my prints, cards and stationary using my own designs and illustrations, as well as my own fabric and textiles. I'm greatly inspired by 1920's/30's graphics, Inuit art and Scandinavian design which is almost always reflected somewhere in my work."
A fine addition to The Red Door.
cards (£2.50) and postcard sets (£4.50) available now in store.

We have been listening to some very lovely music here recently. I would like to share a couple of my favourites. I hope they brighten any mid week blues.

Last week I held a 'Paper Fortune Telling' evening at The Red Door flat.  Friends and local Red Door artists gathered to drink bubbly, eat Kettle Chips and decorate our little origami creations. The results are rather impressive.
If you take a stroll up or down Victoria Street anytime soon you will see them hanging beautifully in our Valentine's window. It will take you right back to those playground days of kiss chase and dear diary.

The 'Paper Fortune Tellers' were made for us by -
Kirsty - WoodenTree
Kirsty - Lovely Pigeon
Nicky Brooks
Krystle Summers
Katie Mcghee
Suzanne Heffron

Many many thanks to all of you.x
