Get off the beaten track

There's so much to do in the city at this time of year it's hard to know where to start, so here's a couple of little gems to be found this weekend away from the well beaten tracks.

First on the list is Gallery on the Corner's exhibition HOPE featuring new works by ASHA, an art projct supporting people who's lives have been affected by violence. Tucked away down a flight of stairs on Northumberland Street, Gallery on the Corner is a beautiful space promoting inclusive art - it was originally set up to show work by artists who have disability, mental health problems as well as from disadvantaged backgrounds. A great space, ethic and with some unique artwork - HOPE is on until July 14th http://thegalleryonthecorner.org.uk/

Second, and something a bit different The Bon Bon Box is the first of a series of unqiue happenings from Dream Out Loud events and will be popping up underneath Bon Vivant on Thistle Street Sunday 1st July 11am-6pm.  Mostly for the ladies (although men welcome to join too!) The Bon Bon Box will offer a 'magical social shopping event' with everything from vintage clothes to jewellery and plenty of other fabulous curiosities. Word is there's going to be some vintage hair do's and planty of chat... sounds perfect! Check out their blog  http://www.idreamoutloud.co.uk/ and get on over there for a wee treat.

Leith Late 2012 is coming soon!

Thought we would throw this your way.....'LeithLate, Leith’s annual multi-arts event is back, returning to a variety of different venues up and down Leith Walk on the evening of Thursday 28th June, and now it’s even bigger, better and LATER than before! Newly extended to a three-hour event running between 6-9pm, and taking on an extra seven venues on top of last year, bringing the quota to a whopping sixteen, plus a new afterparty venue with another great line-up of some of the most exciting emerging talent, this year’s LeithLate is set to blow your socks off !'There are also a number of new and exciting developments at this year’s event, including the introduction of a trio of site-specific installations in three local businesses, a mobile ‘white-van gallery’ touring the rest of the LeithLate venues and the launch of a shutter-art project, in collaboration with iloveleith.

LeithLate is essentially one huge art opening, with numerous free exhibitions and events taking place across a plethora of Leith venues in the space of just one night, many of which are opening their doors later than usual in order to take part. The event is directly proceeded by an afterparty at Henderson Halls, where Scottish Album of the Year-shortlisted Remember Rememberare headlining, with proceeds from ticket sales feeding back into the event, supporting the people that make LeithLate happen. Media Partners The Skinny will be printing a LeithLate route map reflecting all participating venues designed by artist David Lemm (www.davidlemm.co.uk), plus a preview of the event in the June edition of the magazine'
