Happy Halloween everyone!

We were thrilled when Edinburgh artist Emily Hogarth dropped in this new print yesterday. Titled 'Auld Reekie' this one colour screen print is a steal at £40. Time to get some framed ready for display I think - eeeekkk!

For those of you wanting to add a special wallpaper to a little ones room, look no further than these Quentin Blake wallpapers brought to you by Osborne & Little. Im sure we are all familiar with his Illustration and writing, which is why this range titled 'Zagazoo' looks like so much fun, and why we couldn't help but post about it. If only there were more rooms in the house!

If your still hunting down plans for tonight, why not pop in to Out Of The Blue's Drill Hall on Dalmeny Street for the culminating event of Ready, Steady, JEWEL!  Organized by the generous peeps at The Precious Metal Workshop, this charity event saw 12 of the finest established and emerging jewelers creating finished pieces from a mystery goody bag donated by Hamilton & Inches.  Participating designers include Dot Sim, Hannah Livingstone (bottom image) and Red Door favorite, Lorna Hewitt (top image).  From 7pm tonight, the pieces will be on show and auctioned off to the highest bidders with all of the proceeds being donated to The British Heart Foundation, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Bliss for Babies.  Entry is free, there is a raffle with brilliant prizes and if your lucky there may still be some £25 VIP tickets available! What more could you want in an evening out or a Chrimbo prezzie?

In the wonderful world of blogging we, at The Red Door, are both writers and followers. One of the many blogs we follow with joy is Bloesom, a daily source of all things beautiful for the home. Followed by many it was listed among 'The World's Best 50 Design Blogs' by Times online last year. Created in December 2006, founder, editor and graphic designer Irene Hoofs aspires to bring outside-the-mainstream daily finds to her readers. We particularly love the sneak peeks in to some of the world's most inspiring spaces in her Let's Get Personal home and studio tours.

So it was a fantastic surprise to see that Irene had recently featured one of our much-loved designers olive and brown! Based in Manchester, England, olive and brown creates beautiful things through illustration, collage and embroidery. Founder and designer Katy Brown is over the silvery moon to have been featured, "Bloesem has been a source of inspiration for me for a few years now so imagine my sheer delight when I saw my work on it......"

Images, top to bottom; Bloesom blog identity, olive and brown detail from 'origami crane girl', olive and brown 'she would sail oceans' little book, olive and brown 'lay down next to me'

Amazing food styling by the extremely talented Katrin Schacke (via Present and Correct) - is it weird that I really want to eat those stockings/sausages and glove/chips?

Employment Opportunity

Here at The Red Door, we are on the lookout for a new addition to our team. Gallery manager Sarah, who has been at the helm now for 6 years, is sadly planning a move closer to family (and to free babysitters) on the other side of the world. This means that we have an opening for a pretty darn special shop manager. Do you know anyone who would fit the bill?

We won't go into a full job description, but if you, or anyone else you know, would be the right candidate, then please get in touch with us. The right person needs to be passionate about art and design, with a good eye, but also a business head. They need to enjoy dealing with people, be punctual, efficient and organised. Good computer skills are a must but above all we are looking for someone who is cheerful, creative and hardworking.

If this sounds up your alley then send us an email to sarah@edinburghart.com with a current cv attached and a bit about yourself. We look forward to hearing from you!

THIS POSITION HAS NOW BEEN FILLED. WE APPRECIATE ALL THE APPLICANTS WHO TOOK THE TIME TO APPLY.

Oh happy days!  We are now stocking The Lisa Jones Studio's  two books, I Choose You! and I'd Chew Yew!  These warmly comical books are chock a block with beautiful illustrations and charming animal tails.  At £6 each, we think they are the little perfect prezzie for someone small in your life, or someone big who still enjoys a short story, a well rhymed couplet and a cheery bright illustration.  As these books are published by the good people at Silver Jungle who raise awareness of endangered species, these books also have a big conscience and a percentage of profits from sales is donated to Trees For Life.

The Lisa Jones Studio is run by Lisa Jones and Edward Underwood from London.  A very productive pair, who have a wide range of products.  If the style seems a little familiar, its possibly because some of their cracking prints (£60), Tea Towels (£8) and animal character cards (£2.50) have caught your eye.
