New Artist on our Radar - Alice Tait @alicetaitdaily

It's always exciting when a new artist comes on the Red Door Gallery radar!!
We are happy to welcome Alice Tait in to our gallery space with her wonderful cheery litho prints.
Alice has worked with an array of dream clients including Chanel,Vogue and Jamie Oliver to name but a few.
She has taken on the task of a drawing a day for over a year now which can be seen on her blog an Illustrated Life of Alice Tait. She has some wonderful drawings up there.
If Alice wasn't busy enough, she also finds time to teach Illustration at Saint Martins.
You can buy a selection of her prints up on our website here  or stop by the gallery to see them in their full glory!!
Our personal favourite is the Illustrated World Map below
There will be lots more to come from this talented illustrator.

Dedicated follower of...Peter Jensen!

We obviously love a bit of print here at The Red Door Gallery along with a great bit of quirky fashion! Which is why we love Danish designer Peter Jensen so much! Jensen (also a tutor at Central Saint Martins) specialised in Menswear originally before moving into womenswear as well (thank goodness!) His womenswear collections are usually playfully inspired by cult icons in the form of actresses, fictional characters or infamous eccentrics like Gertrude Stein or Tippi Hedren and always embody his colourful, fun and quirky signature style! Check him out!

New Coffee Stop In Town @LockupCoffee

There's quite the coffee scene emerging here in Edinburgh, and we're always on the quest to find the perfect Flat White.
Our new favourite coffee stop on the scene is @LockupCoffee, it's situated on Broughton Street Lane in a Lock Up of course, it's a pop up venture from the guy behind Freemans in Marchmont,
Only open on a Saturday & Sunday is a cool little space.
They will be featuring a different coffee every week from small coffee roasters around the UK. You can also purchase beans to take home too.
They have a rather novel loyalty system in the shape of a Loyalty Door, Pop your name up and add a tally every time you have a coffee!
Definitely a Must Visit and they have exciting plans ahead.

Stare At The Sun

After a few sunny days in Edinburgh we're back to gray skies!! To keep our spirits up and to remind ourselves that there will be hot sunny days on the horizon.......well we can dream!
One of our new favourite  sunny tracks is by Eleanor Friedberger of Fiery Furnaces fame.
Her new album Personal Record is out the 4th of June.
Here's her video Stare At The Sun to get a wee taster of what's to come.

She's a talented lady with quirky style to boot!! We're big fans here in the gallery!

The Red Door Gallery presents Tommy Perman, Leith in Black and Red, April 25th, 7.30 pm

Tommy Perman is an artist who challenges you to notice and delight in the details of the design decisions that surround you.  “Leith in Black and Red” is a folio of prints which boasts a bold red and black palette and continues his series of sought-after studies of urban areas.  Tommy explores Leith’s characterful streets and the idiosyncratic design choices made by shop owners, town planners and the local residents alike.  This subtle playfulness is spelt out most clearly as he gleefully highlights the unique, nameless shop signage reading “Bacon Rolls Etc”.

“Brusnwick Street Stairs” (above) was once a busy access point to the local post office depot intended to transport the public, parcels and Posties safely to and from the building, but the foliage has overgrown creating a treacherous path.  Throughout the exhibition, re-appropriation, protection and faded glory become apparent themes: the heavily safe-guarded yet derelict property with welcoming signage; the deliberate and practical modifications made to listed buildings which contradict their original aesthetic or function.  The artist’s own design decisions are carried out with the same scrutiny he reflects in his work.  This exhibition includes a variety of print techniques, paper types, editioning procedures and application of his work.  Including some limited edition skateboards printed in collaboration with FOCUS, a superb local skate shop.  Alongside his new works, we will be exhibiting a handful of pieces from his wider collection of studies, including depictions of the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and buildings in the surrounding East End of Glasgow. All works available from www.ediburghart.com from April 27th and prices start at £15 for a poster of “Brunswick Street Stairs”.

Leith is a district in the north of Edinburgh.  Once a busy industrial port, Leith is now packed with local businesses, restaurants and bars and is home to a cross section of Edinburgh’s population including artist, designer and musician, Tommy Perman.  Tommy graduated from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, in 2002, since which time he helped established FOUND, an art collective and band who have received numerous awards including Creative Scotland’s Vital Spark Award, a Scottish BAFTA and The List Award for outstanding contribution to Scottish art in 2011.   As a solo artist Tommy has exhibited widely around the UK as well as Holland, USA and Canada.  Tommy recently left FOUND to concentrate on his own artwork and to spend time with his son Patrick who was born on 18 January 2013.

Dedicated follower of...Eley Kishimoto!

I hope this post introduces you to the wonderful design duo Eley Kishimoto or hopefully it just reminds you again of how great they are!! We just love there ethos which is to 'cover the world in print'  and we certainly wouldn't mind, some how we think it might make things a lot more fun and dare we say very very cute! They have collaborated with numerous others and do a range of home ware products as well, so they really could cover everything with their graphic wonders!

Happy Cheery Tunes

It's a gorgeous sunny day here in the gallery, it's a little bit chilly but the sun is out putting a smile on everybodys faces!!
It puts us in the mood for lots of happy cheery tunes in the gallery. Our current favourite today is the family trio Kitty Daisy and Lewis.
They've got us tapping our feet away to their ever so catchy tunes!
One of our favourites is their cover of the Canned Heat classic Going Up The Country.
There video is as cool as the three of them, they rock some enviable rockabilly style!
