Happy Father’s Day! We’d like to spend a little time considering families accross the world today, in particular, famalies living in the poor area of of Sihanoukville, Cambodia. This summer, illustrator and architect David Fleck is heading to Cambodia with Orkidstudio, which is a humanitarian design organisation. Together, they will build new facilities for the Goodwill Centre, a local charity who work with children and women of Sihanoukville.
Raised up on stilts, the innovative new buildings will maximise the amount of play space on the small urban site. Above will be bright and airy classrooms, a small library, IT room, and a soap making workshop to help local women earn extra income.
David has printed these 2 beautiful new prints “Cambodia Stilts” and “Cambodia Town” to assist with their fundrasing. The Red Door Gallery is delighted to support this project, and is offering these 2 prints for sale at £25 each, with 100% of monnies raised going directly towards construction costs. Orkistudio is now very close to their target of £40 000, why not buy a print to help them out and add a momento to your home?
Orkidstudio is a humanitarian design organisation whose focus is to benefit children and communities worldwide through innovative architecture and construction.
We believe that creativity has the power to inspire and instil pride within people and our aim is to explore the potential of architecture as a tool for relieving poverty, transforming lives, and promoting long term social and economic development.
Building alongside volunteers and local builders we hope to complete the building in two months during July and August. We have fundraised all of the project costs, and are now very close to our target of £40 000. All profits from every ‘Cambodia’ print that is bought will go directly towards our construction costs.
