A Famous Night

The Red Door Gallery is thrilled to have Chris McAuley guest curate an exhibition of his A Famous Night poster project.

Inspired by the North American tradition of collectable, hand-printed, concert posters A Famous Night is a project involving artists, illustrators and designers commissioned produce an original artwork commemorating a fictitious gig of their choosing.

By allowing the artists free reign over the line up, venue and design concept, the resulting posters will offer a unique insight into the possibilities of this form without the usual constraints often imposed by concert promoters, venues and the bands themselves.

Each of the participating artists are internationally renowned in their own field, be it comic art, graphic design, illustration or fine art, which will make for a diverse collection that will appeal to a broad audience of art and music lovers alike.

Our exhibition includes new risograph prints (a selection shown above) by Sophie Alda,Rose Blake, Morgan Blair, Marc Giglio, Kirstyna Baczynski, Gabriella Marcella and Alec Doherty.  Along side a selection of the original, gicclee print run.  All A3, All £15, All available to view and buy online here.

New Orleans print collection!

WTP_NO_Piano
Inspired by a sign in the "Spotted Cat" on Frenchman, there will be no drinks or drunks on the piano!
Woah There Pickle is one of The Red Door Gallery's newist recruits, and we just love these joy filled prints.  Created after a visit to New Orleans, this print is  part of a series the artist made celebrating her love of the city. The artist has wittily incorporated some of the idiocyncratic sayings, phrases and motifs that capture the unique spirit and characteristics of this inspirational city.  View the whole collection online here.

Summer's Here with @OhComely

It's starting to feel like Summer has arrived here in Edinburgh! There may be the odd grey sky and rain shower here and there, but hey that's how our summers work, Right? We are surely all use to it by now.
It does also mean that we've had delivery of Issue 16, the summer issue of @OhComely Magazine.
It's always an exciting day when the new issue arrives in the gallery.
With a new look dreamy cover we were keen to get our mitts on a copy and have a gander inside
It doesn't disapoint with the beautiful photography and illustrations that we associate with our favourite read.
Some of our favourite highlights are the dream like fashion photography on Wear this silver key lightly, An encounter with gallery favourite Camera Obscura and My Notebook My Colours, a fun mini book binding tutorial.
There are many more exciting stories, beautiful photography and illustrations to see but we don't want to give it all away, grab yourself a copy and head for the nearest park/ beach/outside space to enjoy it in the sun!!
Available on our website and in the gallery.
Happy Reading.................................

Even better when it's fellow Scot's Camera Obscura. They released their new album Desire Lines at the start of June and it hasn't been off our playlist here in the gallery since!
Check out this live footage of them playing new track 'Do It Again'  at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona.

NEW - @Carterworks in the Gallery

We are pretty excited to shout about a new Illustrator and Printmaker that we have at the Red Door Gallery!
Graham Carter is the man behind Carterworks, and is a pretty exciting illustrator, having worked at the forefront of his industry for the last 15 years
.
He currently lives in Seaford with his wife Alice, baby son Noah and Mr Bojangles the cat (I think we can all agree that's a pretty cool name for your cat!). Working from his studio based in the super hip seaside town of Brighton, he can be found printing and sketching away and running his well know gallery BoxBird.

He has worked with numerous well known brands from Waterstones to Visa, and you're sure to have seen his illustrations in many a publication from The Times Magazine to The New Scientist.

Graham is one of the UK's most prolific and collectable printmakers, He has clients all over the world and regularly exhibits worldwide including from his own gallery in Brighton.
We are very excited that he is exhibiting with us at the Red Door Gallery, we have a range of his screen prints and giclee prints to show you, available in our online store and in our gallery.

Many pieces in Graham's collection are in really small editions. Some as little as 10. There are so many beautiful details in his work, many piece with gold foil details. It's a must to come and see these pieces.
One of our favourites has to be Cirque de Bird Formation
This gorgeous Owl screen print is made up of lots of different birds which can be seen on closer inspection and features lovely gold foil details. It's really beautiful.

There are many more prints available by Graham Carter here on our website.

The Poet Speaks!

Everyone at the gallery here is starting to look forward to August when the International Festival takes place and makes Edinburgh one of the best places to be in the world! Some of us are particularly looking forward to The Poet Speaks on the 13th of August when Patti Smith and Philip Glass will come together once again to celebrate the works of the beat poet Allen Ginsberg through poetry and music! It's bound to be a monumental occasion to cherish, it's not everyday the work of three great New Yorker's come together in the centre of Edinburgh!

Prism of Starlings

We are please to have the gorgeous new collection by Kirsty Baynham here in the gallery.
Kirsty is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art where she gained a 1.1 in 2011.
She now resides on the beautiful West Coast of Scotland where she hand makes her collection.
This new collection Prism of Starlings is a feast for the eyes, it's a really beautiful collection.
Kirsty is inspired by pattern tessellations and symmetry, with this new collection she is focusing on turning her design concepts in to usable, decorative products. Her collection ranges from cards, gift wrap and note books to limited edition giclee Prints.
We are big fans of Kirsty's detailed geometric prints and products here in the gallery. The combination of her delicate use of colour and intricate patterns makes for a pretty special collection.
One of our favourites from her new collection is Mint Feather

Set of two mini note books
