From Saturday March 29 to April 19, Style in the City are running Dress-Up shops in different locations across Edinburgh and today see’s the first one open around the corner from us in The Grassmarket Community Center. Here at The Red Door Gallery we LOVE a bit of dressing up fun, so we have lent a range of our jewelery and bags to the stylization wardrobe.
The article above was published last week by Caitlin Clements in Edinburgh Now and look at our Red Doors! She sums the event up perfectly! “The idea is, once you have bought a new Spring outfit, drop in to one of the Dress-Up shops and a team of stylists will help you accessorise your new purchase – better yet the accessories will be on hand at each event. A photographer will then snap the finished outfit, giving you a keepsake of the day”. A mother’s day treat perhaps? The earrings featured in the article are available here, by Lovely Pigeon.
This event is free of charge, so you will have to scoot along after visiting The Red Door or any of the other wonderful boutiques in the area.
More information is available at www.thisisedinburgh.org.uk. and all our Jewellery is available here and our bags are available here.
Please tweet us a snap of you wearing our jewellery to @RedDoor_Gallery

Spring time in Edinburgh means it's almost #MothersDay! Gift ideas from @alicetaitdaily
We may have a chill in the air again here in Edinburgh, but the days are getting longer, the daffy’s are out and the signs of Spring are all around us! Spring time in Paris is apparently the best time to see the historic city, and this enchanting Alice Tatit print is enough to whisk your mind off to Paris for an imagined tour of the monuments, a fictional crepe and perhaps a bit of franglais – Oui oui, bonjour, bye!
If you would like to more of Alice Tait’s collection, click here to view her folio, including her popular World Map prints. Perhaps there is a little Mother’s Day Treat in there? Happy Day dreaming, au revoir!

We are just over the moon to be included in The Herald’s Style Focus, and even more delighted that they have picked up on Ashley’s Saturday Superstars Style shot and Naomi Greeves’ butterfly badge to share in the article.
Below is a quote from the article:
“The Red Door Gallery, 42 Victoria Street
Victoria Street is home to one of my favourite shops in Edinburgh – The Red Door Gallery, selling artworks, printed fabric products and jewellery. As well as changing exhibitions of artwork, they have artisan gifts by Scottish artists, including Tatty Devine jewellery and Naomi Greaves’ hand-printed wooden badges.”
The extended article has a great round up of some of our favorite local treats, from boutiques to bars. Read the full article here.

HAM is here (the kind you hang on your wall!) @Hamlikes
A warm Welcome to HAM!
HAM captures unexpected moments from the contented lives of a pig, a horse and a rabbit on a range of thoughtfully crafted and 100% British made wares.
Established in 2011, HAMʼs minimal aesthetic seeks to add a serious edge to its playful subject matter. Childhood nostalgia and a fascination with the banal are key themes that continue to inform HAMʼs growing range of animal motifs, all of which have been created by London based designer Jo Robinson (nee Ham) and brought to life by talented makers within the British Isles.
A farmer’s daughter, Jo grew up in the Shires before training as a fine artist at The Ruskin School of Drawing. Jo spent the next five years working at a London design agency before launching HAM with a pop-up shop in Carnaby Street. Since then the range has been featured by a number of press titles including Elle Decoration, Telegraph Magazine and The Sunday Times and can be found pride of place in Edinburgh’s The Red Door Gallery!

Ethical shopping @FairEnoughBlog!
We take a huge amount of pride and pleasure in working directly with around 150 different artists, makers, designers, illustrators and creators here in The Red Door Gallery. Having such a large range of sources makes for a lot of extra communication behind the sceenes, but we believe it’s also what keeps our Gallery Boutique fresh, intrieguing and adds miles to our value as an ethically practicing independant buisness. It is just heartwarming to know that our efforts are appreciated both by our loyal customers, and by our makers whose practices we support and promote. You can imagine how thrilled we are this month, with a lovely write up in the ethical shopping Fair Enough Blog!
Sarah started the Fair Enough blog in 2012 with a challecge to herself to buy all her clothes for a year entirely Fair Trade, second hand or vintage. Since compleating this project, Sarah has mooved to Switzerland and still bloggs with passion and flair about the ethical shopping options she discovers on her travels. We are all a flutter with joy to have been included in her blog as a great spot “If you’re looking for a truly authentic souvenir or a quirky gift”! Thanks Sarah!

The Red Door Gallery as featured in My Scandinavian Scotland!
When Lesley was in our bricks and mortar gallery a couple of weeks back she selected Elephant, Lonely Metropolis and Dancing Girls as you can see above, and Lesley also kindly introduced Angie to our wares, who snapped up a Tat Lady of her own! Angie’s “My Scandinavian Scotland” blog is a brilliant place to click on over to for some Scandi inspiration, and looky here! A very lovely review of The Red Door Gallery:
“I did not know what to expect when I first went into the shop/gallery, as when you hear the word gallery you tend to associate it with pure white walls, and minimal pictures dotted about, or more grand with ornate gilt frames adorning all the pictures of some true masters!! I would say this is a gallery/shop for the people!! :-)…..It is lovely for browsing as well as for the more serious shopper. The staff are fantastic and super friendly”.
Thanks Angie!

Are you in dog house for forgetting Valentine's day?
Are you in dog house for forgetting Valentine's day?
Well, the day of love can be a little fraught if it means more to one half of a couple than the other, so perhaps raising a smile with something a little cheeky might go down well!

Definately cheeky, but it is the perfect reminder to your partner that they are, indeed, always right! Give them the gift of your being wrong, about everything, for ever, and say it in print! Betcha it gets a chuckle!

We are open in Edinburgh all weekend, and our online shop with Valentine’s section, is available to post your goodies as usual!
