Beer Cheers!

With the rise of Craft Beer and numerous small independent breweries opening up across the world. Artists seek inspiration from one of their favourite tipples.

As beers fight to be seen in niche shops and bars across the globe. Many breweries are now seeking the work of local artists and illustrators to design their labels. We’re a sucker for a nice label and definitely feel the pull for artistic flair in the beer isle.

One artist currently selling work behind our Red Doors has paired up with a local bar to design labels and other illustrated goodies to help them stand out from the crowd.

Hannah Botma, who you all know and love for her Dinosaur prints, also works as Creative Director at Hanging Bat. Designing everything from Labels to Signage within their bar and sister bar Spit/Fire. If you’re after a good beer on your next visit to Edinburgh then these are two highly recommended stops for their great selection of local and world beers.

We do love Andy Smith’s collection of Bright, Bold Screen Prints. featuring many of his favourite jokes and ours too! This one is quite fitting for our beer themed blog this week. We don’t serve your Type in here………..get it?

 

Rich Fairhead has a humorous collection of Risograph prints all based on fictional beers. Available as a larger print or as individual prints. Livid Tiger Anyone?

Do you like beer but need a helping hand trying to find your perfect pint? Stuart Gardiner’s Beer Tea Towel guides are sure to help you out. There are three in the collection, Beer Pairing, Beer Guide and How Beer Is Made. You’ll be a pro in no time! Support the great beer revolution and indulge in your favourites in celebration of St Patricks Day tomorrow! It should really be a Guiness! But we won’t tell anyone if you want to indulge in some of your local favourites. I’m sure one of the Brewpubs near you will be pouring some artisan Irish Beers in honour of the day.

New Plant Life Window

With the sunshine on Monday, It was the perfect day to update one of our windows with all the wonder plant themed prints and accessories we have. We’ve also had lots of exciting new products arriving the week, so it was a great opportunity to showcase them.

How to make Pancakes!

Happy pancake day chums!  Here’s a supre cute teatowel with all you need to know about how to make pancakes.  Yours for just £10.  We do love a multi purpose tea towel here in the gallery!This Beer pairing tea towel will help you find the perfect beer to go with your pancakes, crepes or drop scones.  There are more in the range including wine pairing and cocktail recipies.

Growing up, we used to have Scotch Pancakes (AKA drop scopnes) as a snack after school – not every day, but regularly enough to be a thing.  If you make a thicker batter than a crepe batter, and use a rising aganet (self raising flower will work!) you can “drop” the batter into a hot pan, off a table spoon.  The rules in our house was you make your own, eat them as you make them with butter and jam and if you made the batter, someone else made their batch first

Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year. Today officially marks the year of the Monkey which will last until January 27th 2017.There are 12 Animals on the Chinese Zodiac. the Cheeky little Monkey is the 9th in the cycle and won’t appear again until 2028.

Were you born in the year of the monkey? Our very own Rachel was. It is said that if you are born in the year of the Monkey, you are known to be sociable, inteligent, enthusiastic and gentle all very great traits to have but your weeknesses are that you can be jealous, selfish, arrogant, suspicious and bad tempered…..oh boy! We’re sure that’s not all of you 😉

Unfortunate for those born in this year, It is actually known  as one of the most unlucky years in the Chinese zodiac. We’re strong believers that you make your own luck so don’t let that put a dampner on being born in the year of the mischevious monkey :p

With festivites taking place across the world we’re sure you’ll see some of the many beautiful celebrations where you are. We were treated to mesmerising Chinese Dragons and traditional Chinese Dress on the Royal Mile at the weekend.

We’re  now off to indulge in some traditional Chinese foods this evening. Any excuse for a plate of delicious dumplings!

February is here and despite the fact that it’s blowing a gale and raining constantly, we’ve definitely got Spring in our sights.

This of course has been helped by the arrival of the beautiful print collection from Freya.
