Oh what a night we had!  There really was just too much to pack into a blog post, so we'll let the photos speak for themselves.  Over the coming weeks we'll post up images of the works custom made for the event, but for now feast your eyes and drop a wee email if there is something you can't live without!

It's *thank you* time!  Firstly to Andrew JL Ansell for the fine photo's featured above, have a peep at his website to find out a little more about his hotly in-demand studio.  Secondly to everyone... quite literally it would seem... who participated.  Our artists and makers, everyone working at event or those who took part in our coloring in competition and beat the clock Jigsaw (winners will be announced publicly tomorrow) it was a true group project and wouldn't have been the same without y'all.

EVEN MORE photos of the awesome night are available on our facebook page, so please have a peep.  It was such a pleasure to work with the National Museum of Scotland team and no, can't stop gushing!  Can you imagine walking in to the museum at night, in minimal lighting, hanging an exhibition around the exhibits and then BAM a party starts?!  Just magical!  We were all waiting for Mr T-Rex to suddenly wake up and pass us the spirit level!  Museum Lates events are packed to the rafters with incredible live music, brilliantly thought out craft events and the chance to have a wee glass of wine - don't worry, we'll give you heaps of warning to pick up tickets for their September event.

Cor' blimey guvna that collar's tip top!

Cleo Ferin Mercury has just sent us some beautiful Pearly Queen themed collars, bowties, and 'kerchiefs in the spirit of all things Great British! 100% silk they are lush to touch and are a much more elegant and chic way to show your love for London this year with the Jubillee celebrations looming and the Olympics too! Our favourite is the wee dicky bow, it's just too cute!

Wash or dry?

Wonderful Wonderland scarfs by Clo

White rabbits are a jumping and a tumbling in the latest Clo design. Just couldn't resist posting images of these beautifully playful limited edition Alice in Wonderland scarfs made by Clo - the label for Scottish creative duo Sharon Pringle and Wendy Murray. Digitally printed on silk these fabulous scarfs were especially created for our show at Museum Lates last Friday. A limited edition of 3 these scarfs are truly a unique addition to any outfit and they're available in Red Door for £95.

Emily is a paper cut artist based in Coberg Studio's, Edinburgh.  This print started life as a delicately, hand cut piece of paper, which has been translated into a 2 colour, hand pulled, limited edition screenprint, available in red or blue colourways.

Well, well, well, Robbie Porter's been busy working on his 4 secret illustrations, which double as a who's who of the Animal World Gallery (level 1) and depict a re-imagined version of Lewis Carroll's Alice as she falls through the Rabbit hole... to Art Wonderland....

The Red Door Gallery and The National Museum of Scotland comissioned Robbie Porter (who has shown works with us for around a year now) to design a show stopping, interactive mosaic which the lucky ticket holders for Museum Lates - An Night in Wonderland, can join in with. 

We will be tweeting out snaps of the mural as it progresses tonight!

*Drum roll* On Friday @NtlMuseumsScot #ArtWonderland at #rbsmuseumlates we will be premiering a brand new animation from Cameron Duguid!

So, we can't reveal Cameron's Alice in Wonderland inspired animation JUST yet, but here's a sample of his work and a wee bitty about the chap behind the animation.

Cameron Duguid is an Edinburgh based animator, whose work The Red Door Gallery have been enamoured with for quite some time!  His degree film TYPE was winner of The Royal Television Society- Best Student Animation Award in 2001.  Since graduating from Edinburgh Colledge of Art, he has worked on a diverse range of films which have repedadly caught our eye - including an award winning BBC4 documentary about quantum theory and Oliver Sacks: Tales of Music and the Brain which was part of the Imagine series.
More recently he has created a series of music videos, including FOUND's Johnny, I Can't Walk the Line.  This Edinburgh based band also played at the first RBS Museum Lates event last year.

Cameron's individual style of traditional animation techniques results in novel and interesting ways to illustrate complex ideas. Blending a mixture of hands on techniques including paper cutting, 3d models, multiplane and, a first for this piece- a little bit of marquetry. 

If your lucky enough to have a ticket for the RBS Museum Lates event on Friday, head to The Animal World Exhibit (Level 1) between 19.00 and 20.30 to hear Corner Sound present Curios - their layered live analogue and digital sounds which will create a spontaneous soundscape to Cameron's silent animation - and meet Cameron himself, hope to see you there!

Hand crafted collages at there best!

If you are in the Brighton area or heading down there next weekend, check out John Dilnot's work and have a wee peek arond his studio too! Prepare to see some sensational 3D paper works and some amazing paintings and screen prints depicting vintage style birds and insects of all sorts in wonderfully crafty ways. We have quite a bit of his work here at The Red Door too, including two beautiful and completely hand crafted, collaged boxes!

Oh Comely Issue 10.. sneak preview!

Excited to see that the new issue of Oh Comely has just arrived in Red Door and is on the shelves! Some real treats inside icluding a wee interview by Franki Finch, aka Finch and Fouracre, whose architectural models are firm favourite among Red Door customers, as well as all the usual great articles and beautiful art features that you would expect to find in this great publication. We are also chuffed to see Eleni Kalorkoti illustration accompanying 'the comfort of cake' (above) a lovely short story about cake in Swaziland.. we've got a wide range of Eleni's striking prints in the gallery so if you feel inspired why not come in for a peek? Wounded Knee sings capella

Edinburgh based vocal artist and singer, Wounded Knee aka Drew Wright, has been doing his thing for a wee while now, releasing music on independent record labels such as Benbecula and Twos and Fews (Drag City) and performing regularly across Britain. His work orientates around traditional folk songs particularly Scottish tales and is usually and impressively performed capella although sometimes accompanied by loop pedals or unusual instruments. He is always part of interesting events and projects and its definitely worth checking his website out for any up and coming shows - if you head along you are almost guaranteed to experience something special!!!

The best chocolate in Edinburgh...maybe the world?!

For those of you who haven't already paid The Chocolate Tree in Bruntsfield a visit, stop what your doing and head down there!!! They offer possibly the most amazing hot chocolates, real hot chocolate too, none of this rubbish powder stuff!! There ice creams and sorbets are out of this world and if it takes your fancy you can get a take away and head to the bruntsfield links really near by or take a seat in there cosy cafe and have your hot choc served to you in a vintage tea cup. Everything is organic and produced here in East Lothian and even their packaging is environmentally friendly which just rounds up the whole wonderful shibang!!  

Our Ancestor's by David Fleck - Exhibition Opening Night

Our Ancestor's opened here at The Red Door Gallery almost two weeks ago now and since the opening night there has been a constant stream of compliments given, stories shared and questions provoked by the new body of work all freshly created by Glasgow based illustrator and architect, David Fleck.

We would love to hear from you if you have any thoughts on the exhibition whose inspiration lies in Italio Calvino's Invisible Cities.  If you haven't had the chance to flick through this influential, concentrated little book, we thoroughly recommend you do.  If your lucky enough to be passing our way, come in and have a peep.  There will be some photos of the work it's self available soon, for now just enjoy the atmosphere of our opening in the snaps above, another view of city life!
