The Colours of Correll

If you’re familiar with Gemma Correll (which we’re sure most of you are ) then you’ll know she uses a simple but effective colour palette of Red, Black and White for all of her humorous illustrative work featuring funny dogs (inspired by her own little pugs) and lots of unimpressed cats.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the new collection of pieces from Gemma Correll x Ohh Deer arriving in the gallery. Having worked with Gemma for a number of years, her work never fails to disappoint both staff and customers.

A chuckle heard in our extensively stocked card section is usually someone clutching one of her cards. Gemma seems to capture the everyday perfectly, and features the funniest situations that we can all relate to.

We just had to share these pieces along with lots of other Red Goodies that we have in the gallery at the moment. We do seem to be drawn to the colour Red.

Show your Correll love to the world with her fun collection of patches. Did the thought of trying to achieve your camping badge in the Girl Guides make you shudder? If only we could have worked towards these patches when we were young(er).

Mornings can be tough, say it loud and proud with this Mug and I’m sure everyone will stay clear until they see that empty mug. We have many more great products from Gemma. check out her page in the shop.

Love Red as much as we do? We’ve just been restocked with the gorgeous leather wallets by Keecie. Red Move Mountains is one of our favourites. All her accessories feature hidden screen printed linings.

We shared some of the new products by Atomic Soda last week. We have lots more products arriving soon but this is one of our favourites, we love the geometric screen printed design on this bag and it features sturdy leather handles.

They may not be Red, but how could we miss these little guys out of this weeks new arrivals? The cutest little ceramic creatures just begging for new homes, these have just arrived from Barruntando and will be online soon.

New Summer Pastels

Last week we brought you all our beautiful new pieces in bright sunshine yellows! This week we’re continuing to showcase all the lovely new work that’s coming in but this time in lovely bright pastel colours.

This weeks stand out new pieces have to be the new digital prints from Susie Wright. A3 in size and available framed both online and from the gallery.

Susie was commissioned by Lululemon on George Street to install some large scale illustrations of her beautiful work. Usually sticking to a monochrome palate for her Edinburgh prints, We are loving the addition of Bright Pastel Colours.

Continuing the pastel theme, we’ve also just taken delivery of lots of new purses from Keecie. We’re all lusting after her Top Secret Clutch.

Each Keecie purse features cute hidden Screen Printed Animals or Mountains. It’s always a nice surprise to see what’s hidden in each one.

It’s the perfect time to update your homewares and getting your home spring/summer ready. What could be a cuter update than these new folk inspired cushions from Paparajote Factory. Handmade in Spain from lovely cool cotton and featuring the cutest ditsy florals and people.

It wouldn’t be summer in Scotland without the odd rain shower! If you’re heading down to watch the bike racing tomorrow in the Grassmarket; Rain showers are expected. We have some really cute umbrella’s from Atomic Soda to keep you dry at the races and throughout the typical rainy Scottish summers.      (these aren’t currently available online).

TONIGHT! NMSLates Celts

Don’t be a bore, be a boar!  Tonight at the National Museum of Scotland (NMS) you can create your own Mythical Celts Animal thanks to illustrator, Peter Carrington and the innovative team behind NMSLates Celts event. If you are heading to the Museum on Chamber Street, Edinburgh tonight, you are in for a dancer of a night, with live performances from Idlewilde, The Beltane Fire Society, indie folk duo Hannah Fisher & Sorren Maclean and Vic Galloway will be playing a Clets inspired DJ set.If you need a wee rest from dancing, or prefer to throw down some shapes fron behind an animal mask (and who wouldn’t ?) the come find us, The Red Door Gallery and Peter Carrington himself, just off the dance floor in the Hawthornden Court.  If your not fast, your spirit animal may leave without you…

Shiny, Happy And New

What a difference it makes when the Sun has got his hat on! It’s been a beautiful week so far here in Edinburgh and we’re all hoping it stays around for a while.

It makes for an even happier week when we have so many new bright shiny products to share with you all. It’s been an explosion of bright yellow across Homewares, Jewellery and Prints.

One of the most exciting ranges has been from the lovely Jo of Hello Sunshine. Jo has been working with us at the gallery for a number of years now and we always love to see where she’ll take her collection next. 
We love the addition of her Bunny, Canary Aviary and Cheese Plant Collections, along with new lapel pins and cufflinks in her super popular cat and cheese collection too.

We’re sure her new pieces will bring a little bit of sunshine to your lives when the inevitable grey clouds show their faces again.

We’ve also got some new faces to share. Paparajote Factory are makers of beautiful Homewares and Accessories. Their cute little cloud cushion has been a popular choice this week. The perfect range of homewares for all ages.

They’ve been joined by The Lovely Little Company. Makers of novelty lighting, cute milk & cookie lights. The popular favourites have been their lightboxes.

Great Minds Ride A Bike

Looks like the sun might be on the horizon for next week. The perfect time to get out on two wheels. We’ve been a little bit inspired by the arrival of our new window display by bike mad Rebecca Kaye and her Middle of Nowhere label.

Grab one of her water bottles to make sure you stay hydrated on your ride and fill your home with positive cycle vibes making you want to get out on those two wheels.

If you’re finding that you might need a little bit of encouragement and some inspiration to get out there, we’re lucky to be welcoming the Pearl Izumi Tour Series back to the Edinburgh cobbles next week. Thursday the 19th May sees some of the top names in cycling, hit our cobbles. A new route is planned for this year but still round our favourite Old Town Area and coming up Victoria Street.

Every May 4th we go a little Star Wars-tastic here in The Red Door, and this year has been no different!  We have a lot of great new Star Wars inspired goodies in for Adults and Kids of all ages!These “Wee Man” BB8 baby grows are all over the baby cat walk this season, with the 3 to 6 months olds prooving to be the most devout, demanding and cutest of all the Stars are Braw fans!In toddler fashionista circles, the girls are showing the boys how it’s done, rocking the 18 to 24 Month “Wee Man” R2d2 baby grow with social convention shattering style.For the bigger kids (sizes up to age 8) we have both BB8 and R2D2 wee man designs in T-shirt form.For those of you who prefer your illustrations on your wall (or are perhaps a little too adult for kids ware) we have this super cute BB8 print to celebrate your May 4th.

It is important on this day to remember the life lessons of Star Wars, and this new print series certainly does that!May the fourth be with you all!
