Our Pin Game Is Strong!

Like Queen B says “If you liked it then you should have put a pin on it”

Without giving away our age, we remember the first enamel pin craze. Its return is bringing back our childhood memories of pinning them to our bags, denim jackets, lapels, you name it, it had a pin on it.

It’s an affordable way for artists to get their designs out to the masses. Its also much more affordable way for consumers to share their views from everything from politics, art, design to their favourite foods and animals.

If you’ve popped through our Red Doors lately, you’ll see we’re rocking a strong pin game at the moment. So many of our favourite artists are producing their own enamel pin badges and our collection is growing by the day.

This guy has been driving off into many sunsets recently. A customer favourite. :)

Hello Sunshine has expanded her much loved Jewellery collection to include gorgeous pin brooches for Cat Lovers and Campervan Aficionados alike. She’s also rocking quite the enviable pin game herself!!

Vicky from Woah There Pickle has captured our hearts with her Nostalgic Collection of Pins. We’ve just taken delivery of her new additions. Her Cheeky Calculator definitely tickles our Childlike minds. 🙂

We love hearing the sound of laughter from our card corner. We have so many great humorous cards up there. The Jolly Awesome Card range is definitely one of our customer favourites. You can now take their wit with you everyday with their collection of enamel pins.

This little pug is a customer favourite. As is the ever popular I need Coffee!!To round off our Pin collection this week, this lady needs no introduction after her upcoming workshop sold out in record time! The lovely And Smile Studio.

You’ll know her for her fabulous pop icon collection of print and badges. Now delving into the Enamel pin game. We have 2 of her most popular pins in the gallery Frida Kahlo and the dynamic duo Sherlock and Watson.

Our Pin Game Is Strong!

Have Your Portrait Painted for £20!

We are *DELIGHTED* to announce that “And Smile Studio” is taking over our window as her “Live Portrait Painting” booth for 1 day only!  Sunday, November 20th is the date and £20 is the price, which is a total bargain.  We have limited places so book yours early, though our Eventbright Page to avoid disappointment.  This site is for reservations only, so pretty please book with the certainty you can attend, will attend and be sure to pop in to our Victoria Street Gallery, with 10 minutes to spare for your coveted time slot.  For your £20, you will walk away with one bright n cheery, head and shoulders, watercolour portrait of one sitter on lovely watercolour paper!  The painting will be A5 sized (that’s 148 x 210 mm in real terms) and knowing how beautiful these will be, on the day, we will have the option for you to add a frame for £10 to £12.  We have had the pleasure of working with the tallented Viktorija Semjonova for a few years now, so many of you Red Door fans will recognise her “Frida” above.  Victorija works under the moniker “And Smile” and you can learn a little more about her and have a wonder through her exisitng pins and portraits for sale, here.

The same Sunday November 20th of “And Smile’s” portrait day also sees the launch of Edinburgh’s Christmas Celebrations for 2016 with Light Night.  Its a wonderful day to be in town, with plenty of festive spectacles to behold, why not make a day of it and book your portrait slot now? It does seem a long way off still, but we are getting a little festive here in the Gallery, (don’t tell anyone, but our Christmas Tree might be out already) with the temperature dropping, our thoughts turn to Gifting, and we think a personal portrait could offer the perfect Christmas Gift to a loved one, so we will even wrap it for you, for just £2… yes, we have stocked up on Christmas wrap already 🙂

The Danish word Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga) is currently the hip word of the moment as we head in to the winter months ahead. The closest definition in the english language is warmth and cosiness.

Denmark was voted the Happiest country in the world this year, and we can’t help feeling its down to Hygge. The Danes are kings and queens of creating warmth and coziness within their homes, so lets take their cue in winter months ahead.

Happy Halloween - Cats, Skulls and Spooky Delights

It’s almost Halloween, one of our favourite times of year for dressing up and Pumpkins Galore. We’re not out for the shock value this year with our Halloween goodies.  Just lots of subtle spooky and slightly sinister prints and accessories in the gallery, with the odd nod to some pretty cool dress up ideas.

Friday Feeling - Dazzle of Zebras

This Dazzle of Zebra’s are definitely rocking that Friday feeling and has got us in the party mood. A busy weekend beacons. It’s going to be a fun one, so much wonderful new work has arrived these past few weeks in the gallery.

It’s an animal affair in our new window this October. In celebration of the fantastic new ‘Have You Herd?’ Calendar. The pun-tactic Mister Peebles has taken over our windows and decorated it in her true animal pun style.

This time her animal prints are getting the Collective Noun treatment. Who knew there were so many fantastic nouns to describe a collection of animals? You can treat yourself to a whole 12 months of her beautiful illustrations but if one of them has taken your fancy you can purchase them as prints too.

Friday Feeling - Dazzle of Zebras

How Rude!

Have we got some rubbish news for you?  We are down to our last copies of these bright, cheery, colourful prints and we’ve only just uploaded them online for ya.. how Rude?  Yes presicely, they are by London based design duo, Rude!

Abi and Rupert are the folks behind Rude.  They met at work, left work, became Rude then became a family.  Over the last 8 years, they have grown their buisness to include many varying interests, all encompassing their trade mark cut out, colourful aesthetic.

Their fan base includes Zoe Ball and Tracy Emin, and of their own works, the designers say it is “our designs are rude in only the most innocent sense”.

We have a brilliant mix of their A3 Giclee prints available in the online shop, if you 100% love walking around the city in your brogues, then this collection will get a big ole tick on the list!

If you live techno, but love retro, then you share the design duo’s romantic take on craft.  This lap top case could be for you, cine film anyone?And the reverse will keep you amused for many an op art hour.

Not content with offering prints and textiles, the Rude designers aim “to make good design accessable, in whatever medium”.  True to their word, they have released this stunning collection of ceramics.  Titled the “Spal” collection, this teapot’s certain to be a good pourer.
