#Competitions, @pearlizumi @TourSeries & @ChrisHoy in #Edinburgh
A five week cycling competition is arriving in Edinburgh this week and will actually include our beautiful, cobbled Victoria Street in it’s race course – quite a challenge on a bike! The Pearl Izumi Tour Series started in Stoke-on-Trent and ends on Jersey, with stages taking place in various cities inbetween. This Thursday, May 29th Edinburgh’s Grassmarket hosts the women’s (5:30 pm) and men’s (7:30 pm) races, plus youth and amateur events are all taking place on the Grassmarket circuit shown below.
Here at The Red Door Gallery we love all things bike, so we are running a bike related competition, the prize being a copy of Rebecca Kaye’s Visual Compendium! More information on the competition can be found by clicking here or the image below:
The rather *exciting* news about Edinburgh’s round of this Pearl Izumi Tour Series is that Thursday 29th May will ALSO see the 2014 (Sir Chris) HOY Tour make its final stop in Edinburgh – adding an extra dash of awe to our fair city. If you’d like to Chris Hoy’s new range of bikes and witness him testing them on an inflatable circut (and who wouldn’t!) come along to the grassmarket on Wednesday May 28th – this is bike geek heven!
50 lucky cycling fans have the opportunity to ride with the multiple Olympic Champion in a prize draw thanks to HOY bikes and Evans Cycles. To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is fill out the entry form here, and cross your fingers.
Our Red Doors will be open late on Thursday, so be sure to pop in and have a peep at all of our bike related goodies, we have a whole section in our online shop devoted to the Two Wheels world! By far our most topical has to be the above interior and exterior of The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome by Tommy Perman.

#SaturdaySuperstars - Baucis is back after an @GAP year @_fleck
This week it’s more of a Saturday Superstar than the regular starS spot and that’s because we are celabrating the return of an old friend, Baucis by David Fleck. We had to give back the remaining editions of this print a while back as GAP, yes THE Gap bought the rights to this design. A bit of a coup for David Fleck, who was at that time still an undergraduate! Below you can see a snap of the t-shirts they produced.
Happily for us, this product is no longer available and after it’s GAP year, we can once again, offer this excelent 2 colour screen print for sale. Please click here to view the print online and see David’s full portfolio of works. We have more new prints coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Have a super saturday.

Oh what a night! Retro-Future time travelling at the National Museum of Scotland’s Lates event last night saw The Red Door Gallery hosting 5 different events, collaborating with 4 designers, across 3 separate locations with 2 free to all and 1 for lucky ticket holders! It certainly was ambitious, entertaining and extravagant!
1. Illustration Battle – I-Pad Illustration – you tweet Rosie Draws!
Rosemary Cunningham’s inspirational I-Pad drawings were created and projected behind her and this event gave an privileged glimpse of life behind the scenes of a practicing illustrator. Elegant lines transformed into striking patterns and representations of objects found within the museum before the captive audience’s eyes. Rosemary made the whole process look so easy – the true mark of a talented professional! We have both Edinburgh and Glasgow Alphabet Prints and Tea Towels by Rosemary. Available here on our website and in our gallery
2. Illustration Battle – chalk board illustration – you tweet Eilidh Draws!
Eilidh Muldoon was also live drawing but this time using chalk and blackboard. With her carefully chosen 2 colours of chalk pen, Eilidh’s unique line and imaginative take on the collection’s objects produced 3 striking boards packed with styalized illustrations which will go on show, for sale in The Red Door Gallery windows from Sunday 18/05/2014. We have a collection of Eilidh’s print works available both here online and in the gallery.
3. RetroFuture Moustache Reflector Workshop
Rebecca Kaye’s Reflective handlebar moustaches for your bike went down a storm! We believe around 300 of the Edinburgh public is now the proud owner of a tweed / reflective moustache! Perfect for the bike enthusiast, disco diva or tweed fanatic! We have a range of Rebecca’s prints and Accessories available online and in the gallery . A huge thanks goes to our Victoria Street Neighbours, Walker Slater for providing the tweed for this event.
4. RetroPhone Workshop
Lady Muck’s Retro Phone Necklace workshop was totally sold out, and it could not have brought more smiles to people’s faces! Each participant chose their colours and added their choice of charms creating a truly unique piece. You can buy your very own Lady Muck Necklace and Earrings online here and in the gallery
5. #SpokeCardComp
A competition, inspired by Rebecca J Kaye’s Visual Compendium print. We have already had so many entrants to this competition, and the results will be posted on our facebook page this week. If you weren’t at the Lates event, you can enter the second round of this competition, click here to see more details!

Retro Vs Techno #nmsLATESdraw @illustrationetc @EilidhMuldoon
“Retrofuture” is the theme of the May 16th Late event at The National Museum of Scotland and this time around The Red Door Gallery has been invited to step up or content and we will be showcasing projects by not just one, but FOUR tallented designers and artists!
As from today, you can start to contribute to the evening’s artwork by helping Red Door Gallery illustrators Eilidh Muldoon and Rosemary Cunningham choose which objects to draw from the NMS Art & Industry gallery, using their two very different techniques. Tweet us your suggestions @RedDoor_Gallery using #nmslatesdraw – perhaps the 1960s round orange TV, or the 21st century electric cello? Then come along on the night to find out if your choice will become one of Eilidh’s chalkboard creations or Rosemary’s iPad art…
There are still tickets available, but you will have to be quick to snap one up! Friday May 16th, National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
