'Bright' sunlight on closed lids
'Bright' is The Red Door Gallery's winter exhibition showcasing new work from Kate Holliday of sunlight on closed lids.
Bright is a presentation of wall based works expanding on the much-loved sunlight on closed lids greetings card range. Inspired by folk saying that they love the greeting cards so much that they keep them for themselves, it is timely that these characters, patterns and simple sentiments skip off the ephemeral card and find themselves a new home nestled in a wooden frame to be enjoyed season to season, day to day, tick to tock.
These limited edition digital prints are characteristic of sunlight on closed lids illustrative style, blending bold hand-drawn illustration with colourful vintage patterns. A limited edition poster is also on sale alongside greeting cards and stationary. Combining playfulness, primary colours and heartfelt sentiments,
'Bright' is guaranteed to bring a smile to faces young and old.
Despite a slight delay due to weather, 'Bright' is now on show at The Red Door until 31st January. Come and check it out!

Well, we have just had one of those weeks at The Red Door. Edinburgh is covered in that white stuff called snow, which we have come to love and loathe at this time of year. As usual, no one was prepared, so whilst our city, and most of the country slowed to a sliding halt, we remained and still remain firmly open for business! Our only sad point is that our sunlightonclosedlids show 'Bright' has been postponed to open later this week. Miss Sunlight herself was stuck in snow, so we figured it was best for everyone to reschedule. We hope to be hanging this at the end of this week, so watch out for more info!
In the mean time, whilst the snow continues to fall, you can either brave the conditions and come along for a Monday chat with The Red Door team, or stay warm inside and shop with us online!

The 2011 CIA (Central Illustation Agency) Calendars are here! Measuring 14cm x 14cm and printed with recycled paper, this desk calendar has a new image from a new illustrator for every week of the year. Its an inspiration in itself!
We are still in a very optimistic frame of mind after checking out this years finalists for the 'Positive Posters' project. We love the idea of this project which produces a competition, exhibition and online shop all based around the idea of creating an eye catching positive poster which shares a heart warming message with everyone who comes across it. Each year designers can submit their pieces which get narrowed down to a final 30. Check out this years, some of which are above. They are doing a very good job at cheering us up on a rainy, grey Edinburgh Monday.

In the wonderful world of blogging we, at The Red Door, are both writers and followers. One of the many blogs we follow with joy is Bloesom, a daily source of all things beautiful for the home. Followed by many it was listed among 'The World's Best 50 Design Blogs' by Times online last year. Created in December 2006, founder, editor and graphic designer Irene Hoofs aspires to bring outside-the-mainstream daily finds to her readers. We particularly love the sneak peeks in to some of the world's most inspiring spaces in her Let's Get Personal home and studio tours.
So it was a fantastic surprise to see that Irene had recently featured one of our much-loved designers olive and brown! Based in Manchester, England, olive and brown creates beautiful things through illustration, collage and embroidery. Founder and designer Katy Brown is over the silvery moon to have been featured, "Bloesem has been a source of inspiration for me for a few years now so imagine my sheer delight when I saw my work on it......"
Images, top to bottom; Bloesom blog identity, olive and brown detail from 'origami crane girl', olive and brown 'she would sail oceans' little book, olive and brown 'lay down next to me'
Amazing food styling by the extremely talented Katrin Schacke (via Present and Correct) - is it weird that I really want to eat those stockings/sausages and glove/chips?

Employment Opportunity
Here at The Red Door, we are on the lookout for a new addition to our team. Gallery manager Sarah, who has been at the helm now for 6 years, is sadly planning a move closer to family (and to free babysitters) on the other side of the world. This means that we have an opening for a pretty darn special shop manager. Do you know anyone who would fit the bill?We won't go into a full job description, but if you, or anyone else you know, would be the right candidate, then please get in touch with us. The right person needs to be passionate about art and design, with a good eye, but also a business head. They need to enjoy dealing with people, be punctual, efficient and organised. Good computer skills are a must but above all we are looking for someone who is cheerful, creative and hardworking.
If this sounds up your alley then send us an email to sarah@edinburghart.com with a current cv attached and a bit about yourself. We look forward to hearing from you!
THIS POSITION HAS NOW BEEN FILLED. WE APPRECIATE ALL THE APPLICANTS WHO TOOK THE TIME TO APPLY.
